Topic: TREASURES AND PLEASURES
Text: Genesis 19: 1-26 KJV
22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.
24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven
26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
Among many thing in life that devil uses against a child of God like persecution, temptation e.t.c, treasures and pleasures of life are two power tools the devil use to cause a child of God to look back. The ungodly or untamed desires for treasures and pleasures of life are snares of the devil against any person especially believers, and like the scripture says we should not be ignorant of the devices of the devil.
From our scriptural text above, Lot’s wife look back because of her attachment to the treasures of Sodom and Gomorrah, she could not bear the fact all that her husband had acquired in life (treasures) would just perish with Sodom and Gomorrah and she therefore looked back while they were escaping from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and she became a pillar of salt.
In 2 Timothy 4:10, Paul wrote “For Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed to Thessalonica …” Demas left Paul and abandoned his christian faith because of his love for pleasures of life. Greed, lust, fraud, covetousness, envy e.t.c are birth from the wrong desire for pleasures and treasures of life.
Dearly beloved, treasures and pleasures are part of our lives, but we must guard ourselves against any ungodly, unrefined or untamed desires of them in other not to be prey in the hands of the devil. Break off your attachment from pleasures and treasures of life and never give them priority over your faith in Christ or your God given purpose in life, Be like Paul who says nothing in this life can separate him from the love of Christ (Romans 8:35-39). * Father, let me not look back, fail or fall because of the desire for treasures and pleasures of life.
