Topic: THE LORD’S ANOINTED
Text: 1 Samuel 16:1-13
11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
The lessons we want learn from the family of Jesse according to text above are why were David’s brother rejected?, why was David chosen instead? and what was Samuel’s criteria for God’s anointing.
According to the passage, Samuel the priest was instructed to go to Jesse’s house and anoint a king for Israel among his sons and when Jesse made his 7 sons passed before Samuel, Samuel considered the following as criteria for God’s anointing:
- Stature: God does not look at a man’s physique like Samuel did to anoint
- Status: David’s brother were men with title because they were among the Soldiers of Israel but God rejected them. So never let a man’s title deceive you. Let me point out something here, a lot of people go for counselling in the church and requested to see the senior pastor, but when told the senior pastor is busy or not around and that another person should attend to them, they would insist it is the senior pastor and no one else. God can use anyone for you just have faith. Be mindful of this and never judge anyone because he/she has no title. Title could be deceptive. Also a lot have put themselves in bondage today, all in the name of seeking Prophets (who are fake) to solve their problems. I do not mean you should despise a servant of God. Let God guide you.
Finally, David was preferred to be anointed the King of Israel because of course he had a relationship with God, he was not a stranger in fellowship with God. One important thing about David was that his hands were busy. God does not anoint idle hands. A man of God said if your hands can’t do manual labour, then you hands cannot be anointed. Beloved, if you desire God’s anointing among many things do not be an idle hand. God bless you
PRAYER:
* Father, give me understanding of what it takes to be your anointed in Jesus Name
* Father release your anoint upon me today in Jesus Name
