PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
8th September
Topic: THE DANGER OF COMPROMISE
Text : Matthew 11:1-12
3, Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
4, And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
5, The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6, And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
12, Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
This is a popular passage of the scripture but as I study it recently, the Holy Spirit ministered to me afresh, what really disturbed my spirit is the way John the baptist died but before then let me analyze his act of compromise.
John has always believed that as long as Jesus reigns he will also reign along side with with Jesus, he thought he will reduce while Jesus must increase John 3:30, he thought he will always exist with Jesus, that is Jesus will be known more than him, in comparison with Apostle Paul there is a clear difference. Apostle Paul understood that there is no room for him but Christ.
In Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
John did not have this understanding, he was not prepared to die but Paul and other Apostles were ready to die and that is the reason they didn’t deny Christ, but John was expecting Jesus to come and save him, but when Jesus didn’t show up as he expected he compromised, he sent his disciples to ask the senseless question ‘ are you the saviour or we should look for another? ‘
The question cost him much more than he bargained, this is person he said so much about but in his time of trails, he compromised what he once believed and preached, and what befell him cannot be described with words, when a man doubt the Lordship of Christ he signs in for eternal damnation.
One thing you must not do is to compromise your faith in Christ no matter what happens, I made this decision long ago, come what may, nothing will make me deny Jesus, John the baptist was never ready to die for what he believed and preached, so when Jesus didn’t rescue him from Herod he doubt Christ’s Lordship. I have made up my mind that no problem or challenge will take me from Christ, it is a decision you must make, I will continue from here next week Friday .
PRAYER.
* Lord let nothing be able to separate me from you Lord.
