Topic: THE LORD’S PORTION
Text : Acts 4:34,35
34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
Finance in church is a major issue, it has tore some churches apart. Offerings and tithes are portions of people’s income they give in appreciation to God and obedience to His word, tithes and offering are sacred and must be handled as such, they must NOT be diverted for personal consumption or to enrich oneself.
- It primary purpose must be to advance the course of the gospel, it must be for God’s kingdom advancement: Philippians 4:15Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.
16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.
17 Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. The Philippians church gave to support his ministry, meeting his needs, and he said took gifts that fruit may abound to their account, this scripture negates some teachings that says ‘ blessing does not come by giving to a man of God ‘
I personally don’t raise fund but we must teach what the scriptures teach, Apostle Paul received their gifts because he wants fruit to abound to their account.
- The second point is this: Church has responsibility of meeting people’s needs, the poor, the widow, the fatherless, the helpless, the less privileged, should be taken care of. Look at this : Proverbs 19:17 If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord— and he will repay you.
Every pastor or church leader will give account of how he or she spends church money, there must be accountability in church, there must be orderliness in church even in finance. Your responsibility as a member of a church is to fulfill your financial obligation to your church, your pastor will account to God. Give so that fruit can abound to account as Paul said. God bless you.
PRAYER.
* Help me to be faithful in my financial obligation to you.
