PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
11th August
Topic: A PORTION FOR THE LORD ( part 2 )
Text : Mark 12: 41-44
41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
We have come to the time bible prophesied that false teachers will arise, in an attempt to share what they called ‘ revelation ‘ they mislead their listeners. It is important every Christian understand this teaching, it is like a student preparing for an examination who does not understand a particular topic of his course, you will agree with me that he is heading towards failure.
Our passage describes the action of Jesus in a setting you can call a church, He noticed the poor widow threw in 2 mites while rich people cast in much, of course Jesus could access everyone’s financial worth by the Spirit, He based their giving on percentage of what they have, and by His assessment the poor widow gave much more.
2 things to derive from this passage;
1, God recognizes giving: Jesus taught about given, look at it in
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. These are the words of Jesus, who is saying otherwise?
Apostle Paul also spoke about giving: 2 Corinthians 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. Note this ‘ for God loves a cheerful giver.
2, Assessment is based on what you have: God honors your will power, look verse 7 ‘ every man according as he purposeth in his heart ‘ you are not compelled but you are rewarded as you give ‘..he which sows sparingly reaps sparingly: he which sows bountifully shall reap bountifully ‘. It is valued in the percentage of what you have or earn. A man can give $5 and it will be counted to him as bounty while another can give $10,000 and be counted as sparing. Tithing is based on percentage (10%), as a teacher I teach this because Jesus taught it, pastors are also expected to give tithe.
- Some people are disturbed the way pastors enrich themselves through the church ‘ that will be the force next Sunday. God bless you.
PRAYER.
* Lord give me a heart of generosity.
* Help me to honor you with my substance.
