Topic: INFLUENCE VERSUS AFFLUENCE
Text : 1Timothy 6:1-10
1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1 Timothy 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
I will take to this definition of influence for better understanding:
1, A power to affect persons or events especially power based on prestige .
While Affluence is defined as abundant wealth.
The quest to make money has led many to all kinds of evil, ranging from stealing to prostitution, to fraud , to kidnappings etc. Since our society is wrongly inclined by wealth acquisition at all cost, this has triggered some desperate moves to do anything to acquire wealth.
Much more than affluence, influence has great potentials to make our world a better place, a man of influence will do much more than a man of affluence, in fact, influence can produce wealth. While wealth can also bring about influence but the love of it leads to all kinds of evil.
One thing God has given everyone is ability to influence a group of people, in other words, you have influence over a number of people even when you do not have money. If everyone of us influence people around us positively, the world will be a better place, positive influence will bring about transformation in our generation. Making positive impact in the lives of people is of great value.
A thief must have been wrongly influenced by someone, a kidnapper was trained by someone, the touts we see around us were not positively influenced. The love of money, acquisition of wealth is tearing our society apart, our youths are turning out to be something else. All kinds of evil is encouraged just because of money, nudity is no longer considered as evil as BIG BROTHERS celebrate those who can have sex publicly for the world to see.
You will be a great blessing to many as you take up responsibility of making positive impact in the lives of people especially youths. Don’t be too busy in your pursuit of wealth that you will not have time to make impact in people’s lives . God bless you.

* Lord help me not to derail in pursuit of wealth.
