Topic: THE COMPASSIONATE
Text : Luke 10:29-37
St. Luke 10:33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
St. Luke 10:34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
St. Luke 10:36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
St. Luke 10:37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
Compassion is defined as the humane quality of understanding the suffering of others and wanting to do something about it. Christianity has no room for selfishness, being concerned about yourself and family alone is not the kingdom’s lifestyle.
The pressure of the our present days has brought many to the point of mind your business, this is never the doctrine of Christ, a selfish life is satanic, a selfish man wants all to himself even at the detriment of others.
Christ talked about the good Samaritan who will not just pass by a man who needs help, he wasn’t too much in a haste not to help the dieing traveler, how busy have you been that you cannot give attention to the people around you, too busy to pick their calls, too busy to see them, too committed to attend to their needs. This Samaritan wasn’t like that, he couldn’t just by pass the needy, his conscience is not dead, his human quality is not eroded.
Some important questions you must ask yourself; how is my conscience? Am I humane enough? How many people have I blessed? While you are planning to buy another car, someone around just need less than 100 dollars to come out of problem. How comfortable are you when your neighbor’s children are not in school, while you pay huge sum as school fees for your children? They might probably have no food at home, and you care less.
Look at this verse :St. Luke 10:36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
St. Luke 10:37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise. Christ’s message is very simple ‘ GO AND DO LIKEWISE ‘, go and behave like this Samaritan. God bless you.
PRAYER.
* Make me a blessing to many people.
* Help not to be selfish and too busy to neglect the needy.
