PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
10th June
Topic: FAMILY DEVOTION Part 2
Text: Acts 10:1-2 KJV
1. There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2. A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always
In part 1 of this devotional topic last Saturday 3rd June (read further @ www.raisedbygrace.wordpress.com) we learnt that
*Devotion is an act of private prayer or worship
*Family devotion is important as much as personal devotion.
*God is proud of men who raised their children to fear God like themselves (Abraham, Genesis 18:19)
*God is not proud and could condemn men who do not raise their home to fear God like themselves (Eli, 1 Samuel 2 & 3)
Today, let’s consider the importance of family devotion.

  • Exposure to a lifestyle of Prayer: Family devotion exposes the children in the home to a lifestyle of prayer early in life, and as they grow with that culture it becomes a yearning in their heart to seek God daily in prayer.
  • Exposure to daily spiritual meal: At the devotion, the family feed daily on the word of God (a spiritual meal), as the children grow with this, it encourages them to develop personal study lifestyle of the word of God

  • Path to Godly Home: A lifestyle of family devotion is a great step toward raising and maintaining a godly home. As the family spends time with God daily, the glory and the presence of God will radiate upon them and then everyone gets conscious of God in the home. From our text above Cornelius built a godly home through his devouted lifestyle which reflected upon his entire family.

  • Foster Unity: Family devotion is a place of fellowshipping together which foster unity in the family. It is commonly said that a family that prays together stays together.

Dearly beloved, the importance of family devotion cannot be over emphasized, a common challenge in our homes these days is that parents are too busy for devotions with their family. Dear parents don’t be too busy to for your family devotion and their spiritual growth, If Cornelius a military personnel (a busy and time demanding job) could then you can. God bless you.
PRAYER:
*Father, help me never to neglect the place of my family devotions with you in Jesus Name
* Father, let no challenges of this generation take me away from you.
