Topic: PREVAILING WITH GOD
Text: Genesis 32: 24-32
Genesis 32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
Genesis 32:26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
Genesis 32:27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
Genesis 32:28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
God’s desire is that all His children will prevail over life’s challenges, life is controlled by unseen forces and they are not conquered by physical weapons. Our character study today is Jacob, he made attempt to resolve with his brother physically, he sent gifts ahead of him to plead with his brother, but his brother will not take gifts, the battle is far more than settling with gifts, it is a battle over birthright.
Jacob saw angels in v.1 he didn’t hold on to anyone of them, thought he could easily resolve with his brother, he thought there will be no need for divine intervention, but when Esau returned his gifts it dawn on him that this will require God’s attention.
And in v.4 he saw an angel of the Lord again, and this time he held on to him, why did he do that? He understood that God send angels to deliver blessings to people, he knew angels don’t just come around, he was like, God must have sent you to bless me, I will not let you go, it was not an easy task for both of them, but Jacob prevailed, he wouldn’t give up the prayer session until he was blessed.
Prayer is one major way you prevail with God, of course God has great packages of blessings for us but they won’t get to us if we remain prayerless, we got to be prayerful. We got to present our case before Him, we got to persist in prayer the way Jacob did, the promise of God to Abraham and Isaac came to pass in him, the Israelites, God’s own chosen people, emerged from him.
The breakthrough started the day he had encounter with the angel. Prayer releases desired miracles, persistent prayer breaks long time barriers. Keep trusting God through prayer and you will see your desired miracles. God bless you.
