PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
27th May
Topic: AN EXCELLENT CHILD Part 5
Text: 2 Chronicles 34:1-34KJV
1-Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years.
2-And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined the neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
3-For in eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.
Today is the World Children’s Day, I am glad to share with you the part 5 (final part) of this devotional topic which we have been considering in the past four Saturdays on 29th April, 6th, 13th & 20th May. (read further @ www.raisedbygrace.wordpress.com).
We want to consider that parents, grand parents, great grand parents, guardians and every christian have parts to play in raising an excellent child.
From our text above, one key thing about Josiah was that he followed after the steps of his father David and secondly he sought after the God of his father David. David was a great grand father to Josiah, not his immediate father nor even his immediate grand father, but had actually lived a lifestyle worthy of emulation such that Josiah a great grand child walked in his steps and succeeded. Can your children emulate you?, are you worthy of emulation? think about this.
In 1 Samuel 2:18-19 “18-But Samuel ministered before the Lord, even as a child, wearing a linen ephod. 19-Moreover his mother used to make him a little robe, and bring it to him year by year when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.” As Samuel ministered before God being a child, his mother did not abandoned him in Shiloh in the hands of Priest Eli and his two wayward children, Hophni and Phinehas.
Hannah visited Samuel every year with clothes she made for him. Her visit could not have been to give him clothes alone but to teach and also train him to be a godly child. Many parents today are too busy such that there is nothing like prayer altar, morning devotion, evening devotion, bible study time during the week, as such their children have no opportunity to hear God’s words throughout the week until they get to church on Sundays. Such parents has abandoned their duties to the children to teachers in their various churches. Hannah was not like that.
Dearly beloved, Timothy was raised a godly child by his godly mother and grand mother (1 Timothy 1:5, 3:15). You have your part to play, we all (christian community and society) have our parts to play in their lives. Be godly, be excellent to raise godly and excellent children. God bless you.
PRAYER
* Father, help me not to fail you over my children and over every child around me
* Father, I will not receive condemnation because of my children in Jesus Name.
