PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
23rd May
Topic: DOWN TO EGYPT
Text: Isaiah 31:1-3KJV
1-Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!
2-Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.
3-Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.
Don’t go down to Egypt in this context does not mean one should not travel to Egypt as a country. It actually connote that one should not go to where God do not want you to go. In the old testament the journey to Egypt has always been used with the word ‘down’. For example in Genesis 12:10 it is read that Abraham went DOWN to Egypt, In Genesis 26:2, God instructed Isaac not to go DOWN to Egypt and even our text for today in Isaiah 31:1 says “Woe to them that go DOWN to Egypt…”, beloved, going down is certainly different from going up as such there must have been a deeper meaning to the word DOWN being used when the people of God move from where they are to Egypt
In those days of the old testament, Egypt was a nation that seemed to have good economy and that land was flourishing, a place many would want to run to for survival of harsh economy of their nation but it was also an ungodly nation full of idols. God does not want His people to go to Egypt. From our text it is clear that God cursed anyone who goes to Egypt(an ungodly place, a place not approved by God, e.g occult, herbalist, false prophets, e.t.c) for help.
Abraham went to Egypt for better livelihood but he encountered a serious problem with the Egyptians that took God Himself to rescue him (Genesis 12:10-20), Isaac wanted to go to Egypt because of famine in the land but God appeared and instructed him, never to go down to Egypt but stayed where he was and God blessed him even in the midst of famine.
Dearly beloved, where you are, where you go, where you are located is very important to God. Never go out of God’s reach for your life, don’t go to a place where the blessings and favour of God will not be able to reach you, don’t go to a place where God’s favour upon you will be replaced with misfortune, even though it appears the place flourishes, and suitable to be but if it is not a place approved by God do not go down there. God does not want you to go down to an ungodly place for help rather He wants you to come up higher unto Him. God bless you.
PRAYER:
* Everywhere I am located, that made me far away from your blessing, by your mercy please relocate me in Jesus Name.
* Father let me where you want me to be part time, I will not be in a wrong place of life in Jesus Name.
