Topic: AN EXCELLENT CHILD Part 3
Text: 2 Chronicles 34:1-34KJV
1-Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years.
2-And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined the neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
3-For in eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.
In part 1 & 2 of this devotional topic on Saturdays 29/04/2017 and 06/05/2017 respectively we considered some biblical examples of excellent children such as Josiah, Joseph, Samuel e.t.c (read further @ www.raisedbygrace.wordpress.com). Today we want to consider the secrets of their success and exploits.
The following are the secrets of their exploits as children:
- They knew God: These children knew God and had personal relationship with God. Josiah sought after God in the eighth year of his reign (2 Chronicles 34:3), Samuel ministered before God in his temple at such a time when the word of God was precious and there were no open vision (1 Samuel 3:1). Their personal relationship with God is the top most secret of their excellent lifestyle and exploits.
-
They walked perfectly with God: Many Kings did what was right in the sight of God but could not remove the high places in Israel, however Josiah did what was right and equally removed totally the high places in Israel (2 Chronicles 34:33), so Josiah walked with God perfectly not declining from the ways of his father David. Joseph was tempted by Portipher’s wife but refused to fall to the temptation saying “How can I do this great wickedness and sin against God” Genesis 39:9.
-
They disallowed negative societal influence: Samuel lived in the temple amidst the two sons of priest, Hophini and Phinehas who were wayward in their lifestyles but he did not allow them to influence him negatively (1 Samuel 2:29). Joseph did not allow his master’s wife to lure him to sin against God, he fled from her influence when she grabbed him to commit fornication with her (Genesis 39:11-12).
Dearly beloved, proverb 22:6 says train up your child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it, so train your children to know God personally, to walk in God’s way perfectly and to live above negative societal influence and never stop praying for them, I tell you they surely will be excellent children. God bless you
PRAYER:
* Father, pour your excellent spirit upon my children in Jesus Name
* Father, help me to lead them on the right path to excellence in Jesus Name
