Topic: THE MYSTERY OF SACRIFICE
Text: Psalm 50:1-23
Psalms 50:5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
Psalms 50:10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
Psalms 50:12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
The major point I can pick from the definitions of sacrifice in context of this message is surrender, give up, relinquish. From our text God is talking to his people, verse 5 clearly tells the class of people is talking to here, ‘ gather my saints, who have made covenant with me by sacrifice, those who are committed to me, who have surrendered things for my sake, who have relinquished some things for me.
Of course he gives reference to the fact that they have forgone some things for His course, He recognizes their offerings, tithings, giving ample time for worship, and His work. He wasn’t writing off their sacrifices, in fact they are the class of people He is giving important instruction.
The verse 5 states clearly that sacrifice brings them in covenant with God, this a very clear point, your sacrifice brings you into covenant with God;
– The sacrifice of your life Deuteronomy 6:5
– The sacrifice of your substance ( wealth and money ) Proverbs 3:9
– The sacrifice of your time Ecclesiastics 12:1
Some people have enter into lifetime prosperity either by giving to God or a man ordained by God 1 kings 17:11-15. Sacrifice to God can turn your life around for the best.
Understanding that sacrifice is important, but much more than sacrifice God is saying something to those who are covenanted by sacrifice look at it here;
Psalms 50:22 Repent, all of you who ignore me, or I will tear you apart, and no one will help you.
Psalms 50:23 But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.” Your sacrifice will be honored by me when you keep to my path, make your ways right, don’t indulge in sin, live right, stay holy and clean. All sacrifices to God and His men is can’t be honored by God if you still live in sin.
PRAYER.
* God help me to abstain sin.
* Help me to honor you with my life and substance.
