Text: Genesis 13:1-12KJV
5-And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.
6-And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.
8-And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren
11-Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.
As a child of God, there are three sets of people you meet in life. We have people that God send to you, we have people that God send you to and we have people that God did not send but you just meet them by the way as you journey in life. The impacts, either positive or negative, that these sets of people make in your life has a long way to go and even at times determines what becomes of you in life.
From our scriptural text above, the relationship between Abraham and Lot was a blessing to Lot though Bible Scholars argued that it was more of a curse than blessing to Abraham. Lot failed to realise that God blessed him because of his attachment with Abraham, see verse 5 “And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents”.
When there was strife between Abraham’s herdmen and Lot’s, and Abraham suggested they separated, Lot accepted the suggestion easily as if he he was just waiting for Abraham to say it. Lot being a selfish man took the best portion of the land and went his own way, alas! that was the beginning of his downfall. Lot made a costly mistake that cost his generation dearly because he was not mindful of the blessings of his relationship with Abraham
The following series of events that happened in Lot’s life after he separated from Abraham shows he made his greatest mistake:
* God consumed Lot’s territory, the city of Sodom and Gomorrah with fire
(Genesis 19:24)
* Lot’s wife became a pillar of salt for disobedience of angelic instruction
(Genesis 19:25-26)
* Lot’s two daughters committed adultery with their father (an abomination)
Genesis 29:30-35
* Their abominable acts produce two generations, Moabites and Ammonites who were enemies of God’s people, the Israelites.
(Genesis 19:36-38)
Dearly beloved, be mindful of the people who you meet in life and their impact in your life, never make a costly mistake to break away from those God has ordained as your destiny helper. God bless you
Father, any costly mistake that will ruin my life and my home, Lord stop me from making it in Jesus Name.
Hosea 9,10
