Topic: THE MYSTERY OF HIS BLOOD ( part 1 )
Text: 2 Corinthians 5:14-21
2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
Pondering over suffering and death of Christ, one will wonder if there could have been alternative to them, but there was none for the following reasons;
1, Sin must be punished : Proverbs 11:21 Though hand join in hand, the sinner shall not be unpunished.
2, The law must take it course: Exodus 21:24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot. The law teachings revenge and punishment for every sin, that is the reason they did paid for every sin they commit instantly in old testament.
BUT WHY THE BLOOD OF CHRIST?
Since eye is for an eye, and tooth for tooth, someone must bear the punishment for sin, either the sinner himself or someone agrees to bear for him. Note : a sinner cannot bear the punishment of another, he has his own to bear. Why didn’t God use animal’s blood for cleansing of man’s sin ?
Since eye is for an eye and tooth is for tooth according to the law, eye of animal is not equivalent to eye of a man, blood of animal is not the same with blood of human, so the blood of a sinless man is needed to cleanse sinners, the person bearing the punishment must be sinless.
WHY BLOOD WHY NOT SOMETHING ELSE?
* This is because the life of every flesh is it blood ( man inclusive ).
Look at this :Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
Leviticus 17:12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood. Since punishment for sin is death ( Romans 6:23, Ezekiel 18:4 ) remedy for sin must be life giving. Animal’s blood was used by God in old testament for ATONEMENT meaning COMPENSATION not CLEANSING but JESUS’ BLOOD brings THOROUGH CLEANING.
Look at this : Hebrews 9:13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
The question is this? Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power? Are you watched in the blood of the holy lamb ( Jesus ). No other sacrifice for sin beloved expect the life of the sinner himself.
PRAYER.
* Repent and ask God to cleanse you by Jesus’ blood.
