PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
18th February
Topic: DANGER OF SUCCESS
Text : 2 Chronicles 26:1-23
2 Chronicles 26:5 And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.
2 Chronicles 26:15 And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.
2 Chronicles 26:16 But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
The topic looks strange but as read you through you will understand, the human nature remains calm, submissive, humble when seeking breakthrough, success and prosperity, but as soon as the breakthrough comes, the natural man becomes high minded. He feels he has attained success by his wisdom and strength, pride will narrowly sneak in, utterances will change .
For instance: when he did travel in public transport, he speaks cool, humble in speech, but when a personal ride comes, especially if it has to be expensive ride, utterances will change, pride set in, to him achievements now seem easy and begins to wonder why others are not making it, sometimes he looks down on poor people, and probably calls them fools.
This is the natural man, the tendency is in everyone, he begins to lose his devotion to God, all in the name of appointment here and appointment there, jumping out of one meeting into another meeting, thereby losing time of quality worship with God.
Some naturally grow weak in prayer, they lose the zeal with which they pray when they are trusting God for success, commitment to the things of God reduces drastically. King Uzziah in our passage is typical example of the picture I am painting here. He started well by seeking God, his heart was devoted to God, he wouldn’t want to do anything that displeases God, howbeit, some days after his fame began to go far, his heart was lifted against his maker, he couldn’t watch it, probably because he longer have time for devotion with God, he was always meeting with dignitaries, oh how terrible was his fall? He could be liken to a river that forgot it source.
It is absolutely important we keep a watch on our lives, watch your utterances, a proud man can easily be noticed by his words. God bless you.
PRAYER .
* Lord help me to keep a watch on my life.
* Lord remove every iota of pride in me.
