Topic: THE LORD’S SACRIFICE
Text : Psalms 51:1-19
Psalms 51:15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
Psalms 51:16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
It is absolutely important we find out His delights if we must get the best of Him, every wise employee will seek delights of his boss, and when he discovers that and was able to impress his boss, his promotion his certain.
Everyone who wants to move higher in God, must seek His delights, the psalmist speaking by the Holy Spirit, made great revelation in our passage, in verse 17: the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit : a broken and a contrite heart, o God, thou wilt not despise.
The psalmist was speaking from experience, he knew how God did show him mercy each time he sinned, how God’s mercy prevails over judgment each time he approaches God throne with a broken spirit and a contrite heart. He knew how he did enjoy God’s awesome presence each time he goes to worship with a broken spirit and a contrite heart. So he could talk from experience, he knew that it is not what you bring, but with the heart with which you bring it.
The psalmist understood that he must not approach God with the arrogant heart of a king, that will be complete waste of time, he was persuaded that each time he goes with a heart of a shepherd boy which he use to be, God will accept his sacrifice. God wants a heart that is real broken not a proud heart, not an arrogant heart , not a sinful heart: this is why a sinner cannot give an acceptable offering except he repents. With what heart do you worship God?
