PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
17th January
Topic: NOT JUSTIFIED BY EXCUSE
Text Genesis 3:1-18 KJV
12- And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
13- And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
14- And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15- And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
An average person would often not want to take responsibility for his/her wrongs but rather give excuse or shift the blame else where. A brother and sister who committed fornication would say ” its the sister who seduced me, or the brother says its the devil’s work”. A man who steals would blame the devil, some children would blame their parents for their failure or wrongs.
There is a lesson to learn from our scriptural text above. Adam and Eve ate the fruit of the tree of Life that God instructed them not to eat. When God asked Adam, he justified himself by shifting the blame on his wife, Eve likewise blamed the serpent when God asked her why? Beloved though Adam and Eve gave excuses to justify themselves, God did not justify them by their reasons, He cursed them all; Adam, Eve and the serpent.
Let’s consider another example from 1 Samuel 15:1-23. King Saul was instructed by God through Prophet Samuel to go and destroy the whole land of Amalek, not to spare any living thing on the land. Saul partially obeyed God, he destroyed everything in the land except the King of Amalek and some fat and well nourished animals. When Prophet Samul confronted King Saul, he gave excuse for his actions, he said he brought the fat rams to offer sacrifice unto God Almighty, and Samuel told him ‘ to obey is better than Sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams ‘. On the long run the Prophet told him that God has rend the Kingdom away from Saul and given it to another person.
Beloved, Adam, Eve, the serpent and even King Saul were not spared of God’s judgement inspite of their supposed genuine excuses. So what is your excuse? Remember 2 Timothy 2:19 says ”
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity”. God bless you
PRAYER:
*Father, please help not to take your grace for granted in Jesus Name.
