Topic: CELEBRATING AMISS
Text. : Matthew 1:20-21
St. Matthew 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
St. Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
It is universally believed that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. In other words, it is the birthday celebration of Jesus, a time the world remembers God sent Jesus (His son) to the world as saviour.
The real intent of any celebration is the purpose of the thing that is celebrated. To celebrate Jesus’ birth, it is important we understand the purpose of His birth. Someone said, ‘when the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable’ but I say ‘when the purpose of a thing is not put into consideration, abuse is inevitable’. Many a time people know the purpose of a thing but end up using it against its purpose.
Therefore, if Jesus was born to save us from our sins, committing sin on His Birthday in the name of celebration is celebrating amiss, it is like adding sin to sin. It could also be liken to a scenario where a prisoner was released but in the course of celebrating his freedom committed another crime.
How dear you celebrate Christmas with a girl friend leaving your wife and children at home? Oh how foolish and unacceptable to God it is when you celebrate with strong drinks and prostitute? It is celebrating amiss. Oh how heart-broken Jesus feels on His birthday because its purpose is not taken into consideration?
Everyone who will escape the wrath of God upon this world MUST take the purpose of Christmas into consideration: St. Matthew 1:21 says, “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
This is the reason He was born. If you are not delivered from your sin it is complete waste of time celebrating Christmas. You can repent of your sins today, accept Christ and forsake your sins. MERRY CHRISTMAS. GOD BLESS YOU.
PRAYER.
* Lord, deliver me from the passion of sin.
* Lord, help me to serve you in righteousness and holiness.
* I accept Jesus as my Lord and saviour.
