Topic: PECULIAR PEOPLE
Text. : 1 Peter 2:1-10
1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
1 Peter 2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
The word ‘Peculiar’ means special, selected, chosen, appointed. It means a distinguish from the usual. It also means distinctive. God is the creator of all but, some people are peculiar to Him. Let me simply put it this way: knowing that God made us in His own image after His likeness makes us relate some of the things we do with His attributes, just as some people are special to you, in like manner, some people are precious to God.
The peculiarity is not by birth, or tribe or race, it is earned, of course you expect me to say ‘ by grace ‘ but until you activate what grace offers you are not peculiar to God. Grace is available to all but not all embraces what grace offers.
Look at this scripture: Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. Take note of the statement:’frus
trate the grace of God’. It is very possible that a man frustrate God’s grace upon his life. The writer of this passage was a terrorist, he simply accepted what grace offers, in all ramifications he was not in any way qualified to be among God’s chosen people, but embracing what grace offers won him a glorious seat among God’s peculiar people.
Accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour is the first step in embracing this offer of grace, total abstinence from sin and the world is enrolling into God’s peculiar people, total consecration to God is pitching a seat among God’s peculiar people. At this point every good thing God has in store for His peculiar people becomes yours. You can enroll today. God bless you.
