Topic: ISSUES OF LIFE
Text: Proverbs 4:20-23KJV
20- My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21- Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22- For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23- Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
There two keys words in our topic: (1) Life and (2) Issues. I often view life as a broad and very complicated film (liked a season film) being acted with God Almighty as the script writer, producer and director. Life is so complicated that different scenes unfolds in it per time. On the other hand Issues are events, situations or circumstances that characterises life on earth.
Everyone on the surface of the earth has series of issues to deal with in life, as some issues are resolved, many other rises as long as such person is still alive. Some issues are good, simple and easy to deal with, others can be bad, complex and difficult to resolve.
Our text above states that the heart is a major determinant of life issues, what it means is that before steps, actions, decisions are taken in life, they come first from the heart. It is those actions, steps and decisions that result into issues either good or bad. New Living Translations says verse 23 this way “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life” that is the heart determines the direction of life, therefore it must be guarded.
Dearly beloved, the only proven, tested and approved way to guard the heart is through the word of God as clearly stated in today’s text. This implies, if you want to be a winner, an overcomer, a successful person in life (especially in the issues that pertains to life), you must faithfully guard your heart with the holy word of God. You can’t afford to joke with God’s word if you must take control over life situation and challenges. God bless you

1. Father, help me to guard my heart with your word in Jesus Name.
