Topic: TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD
Text: 1 Samuel 8: 1-5KJV
1 And it came to pass, when Samuel was
old, that he made his sons judges over
Israel.
2 Now the name of his firstborn was Joel;
and the name of his second, Abiah: they
were judges in Beersheba.
3 And his sons walked not in his ways, but
turned aside after lucre, and took bribes,
and perverted judgment.
Psalms 27:3 says children are God’s
heritage, so they are given to us to take care
of for our heavenly Father, meaning we are
care takers of God’s heritage (children). It
therefore means that you are accountable
to God for them. Parents see it in that light
that they are God’s children and not your’s
possibly it will greatly help you to be more
responsible for the upbringing of your
children. Many parents are not responsible
enough for their wards, they are so busy
that they leave them to be molded and
shaped by the society, many are busy with
job, extended families, ministries at the
expense of their wards. It does not matter
how great you are if you cannot duplicate
yourself in your children then you have
failed.
From our text today, Samuel was a great
prophet in Israel, a prophet with high
pedigree, at whose words the whole nation
of Israel would tremble. It was recorded in
the scripture that God did not allow
Samuel’s words to fall to the ground (1
Samuel 3:19-21), however his children were
wayward judges in Israel who took bribes
and perverted judgment. And after the
death of Samuel nothing was ever mention
about Samuel’s children, permit me to say
Samuel possibly did not diligently nurtured
his children in the way of the Lord like his
own mother Hannah did to him (Samuel),
Hannah dedicated Samuel back to God from
childhood (1 Samuel 1:24-28) and visited
him every year (1 Samuel 2:18-20) no
wonder he became a great prophet but
Samuel possibly didn’t reciprocate the same
on his children. Please be mindful that this
devotion is not to condemn Samuel but for
us to learn that as parents we are greatly
responsible for what our wards becomes
and their disposition to the things of God.
So the society or nation even God should
not be blamed for the lots of our children
Dearly beloved, dear parents, never assume
that since children are God’s heritage He
will totally take care of them for you, please
note you have your own part to play as a
parent primarily, and secondarily hand
them (dedicate) them back to God through
prayer and careful mentoring. God bless
you

Father, help me not to fail your over the
children you have given me in Jesus Name
