PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
10th March
Topic: A FEARFUL THING
Text: Hebrews 10:26-31 KJV
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment,
suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an
unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
The scriptures above explains how serious it is to willingly go into sin after one has known the truth. It says it cannot be compared to the punishment of death passed on a man who despised Moses’ law under two or three witnesses and concluded by saying it is a fearful thing to fall into hand of God. According to verse 29 of our text, a child of God who goes back into sin has:
* Counted the blood of Jesus that santified him unholy
* Despise the spirit of grace or better still he has taken God’s grace for granted. Dearly reader such is a fearful thing.
The story of King David in 1 Chronicles 21:1-17 thought David an important lesson that it is a fearful thing to fall in the hand of God. David sin willingly because Joab cautioned him about the decision to number Israel. God was angry and asked David to choose one out of three punishments. David choose 3days of death because he understood that God is merciful and said it was better for him to fall in the hand of God than in the hands of men but at the end he learnt that even though God is rich in Mercy (Ephesians 2:4), yet it is fearful to take his grace for granted. Just in one day of the punishment 70000 Israelites died before God had pardon, all because David took God’s grace for granted.
Dearly beloved, God is merciful yet it is fearful to fall into the hand of God especially when we take his grace for granted. God bless you
