Text : Matthew 16: 1-20
16 KJV:And Simon Peter answered and said,
Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living
God.
17KJV:And Jesus answered and said unto
him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for
flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto
thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 KJV:And I say also unto thee, That thou
art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my
church; and the gates of hell shall not
prevail against it.
19 KJV:And I will give unto thee the keys of
the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever
thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in
heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on
earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Prevailing Voice Daily (PVD) on Sunday is
dedicated for worship, understanding
Church order and worship. I continue from
last week Sunday , CHURCH CONCEPT, the
emphasis this morning is THE POWER OF
THE CHURCH.
Jesus told Peter ‘..upon this rock I will build
my church; and the gates of hell shall not
prevail against it.’ Jesus acknowledged the
struggle and effort of the gates of hell to
prevail over His Church and assured Peter ,
the first Bishop of the new testament
church, that hell can never prevail,
something worthy of noted is ‘gates of hell’
not ‘gate of hell’; gate is an entrance,
channel, medium of exit and entering. This
means that every medium hell is waging
war against His church will definitely
amount to nothing.
In verse 19 Peter on behalf of the church
received the keys of the kingdom of heaven
to effect changes on earth, the church
possesses the power to make the difference
on earth, to destroy the works of the devil.
He didn’t give power to politicians, not even
government, not to any president of the
earth but to the church, so the church
possesses power than any other institution
on earth.
There is power in the church, if your are not
experiencing it, there is a problem some
where, when hospital reject patients, they
should find healing in the church, demon
possessed should be liberated in the
church, the hopeless should find hope in
church, church is not a playing ground, it is
a holy and powerful place, change your
attitude to church, and if you discover
ungodly acts from the pulpit, l mean from
your pastor, then change your church. Any
church that can’t change people’s life
positively has lost her power.
PRAYER.
* Lord let us experience your power in our
church.
