25th February
Text: Luke 14: 16-26 KJV
24 For I say unto you, That none of those
men which were bidden shall taste of my
25 And there went great multitudes with
him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his
father, and mother, and wife, and children,
and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own
life also, he cannot be my disciple.
There are prices to pay to follow Jesus and
to reign with Christ in God’s kingdom. One
is the prices is too break off our attachment
with anything in this world. Verse 26 of our
text today is simply saying God first before
any other thing. In our text, the people who
were invited for the great supper were
making excuses not to be there, the
attachments they had with their wealth,
businesses and families would not let them
come into God’s kingdom. In Mark
10:17-23, Jesus said “it is easier for a camel
to enter the eye of a needle than for a rich
man to enter the kingdom of heaven”.
These words were borne from the story of a
young rich man who ran to Jesus saying
what should he do to inherit eternal life.
The young rich man having been an
observant of the laws and commandments,
Jesus said to him, one thing left for him to
do is to sell all his possessions and give it to
the poor then come back and follow Jesus.
The young rich man returned sad because
of the attachment he has for his wealth and
so he would rather hold on to his wealth
than to hold on to God’s kingdom.
Matthew 13:44 says “Again, the kingdom of
heaven is like unto
treasure hid in a field; the which when a
man hath found, he hideth, and for joy
thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath,
and buyeth that field.” Such a man had no
attachment to his earthly possession so he
joyfully and willingly sacrificed it all for the
sake of God’s kngdom.
Dearly beloved, what attachment have you
to the things of this world, no wonder Paul
asked in Romans 8:35 that “who shall
separate us from the love of God?” The
kingdom of God is worth giving all for, is
worth sacrificing all for. All that is in the
world (possession, business, career e.t.c)
will perish with world. So have ye any
attachment? Think on these things,
remember with God all things are possible.
God bless you
Father, let nothing in this life be strong
enough to take heaven away from me in
Jesus Name.
Joshua 9, 2Timothy 4.
