Topic : WRONG SOURCE OF HELP
Text : Isaiah 31:1-9
1 KJV:Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!
2 KJV:Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.
3 KJV:Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.
Our God is a jealous God, and His glory He will share with no one, He wants us to look up to Him alone for help. When we seek help from elsewhere it becomes sin to Him, from our passage, ‘ Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help…’ Egypt to the Israelites was a land of idolatry, land of bondage, land of sin, and besides, Egypt has weapons of war, chariots and horses, going to down to Egypt for help is synonymous to seek help from land of idolatry, and looking up to her for her strength.
There is curse from God on anyone who seeks help elsewhere except from Him, lesson to learn here is this, though in most cases God send men to help us but our hope must not be in men but God, another lesson is this, God curses everyone who seeks help from other gods, those who patronise herbalists, visit shrines, who join cult for the purpose of security and acquiring wealth.
Read what He says in verse 3 ‘When the Lord shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together’. God alone should be our help and strength Psalms 46:1.
I remember vividly at 19, I had serious stomachache, one elderly man in our compound entered his room, came out chewing something in his mouth and trying to spit in my stomach, even amidst serious pains l forbade him, the pains was so severe that l landed at the hospital that same day, but I was determined to continue in pains that to go diabolic.
God is a sure helper to everyone who trust in Him, as we please Him with our lifestyles He sends help our way, everyone who trusts Him can never run out of help. At anytime you need help you will find sufficient one. God bless you.
PRAYER:
Oh Lord, you alone shall remain my source of help.
