PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
7th February
Topic: DECEPTIVE WORSHIP
Text : Isaiah 29:1-14
13 KJV:Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
14 KJV:Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.
Deception is a common lifestyle in many congregations, the first thing that deceives in church is our look, dressing, our churchy look. I have discovered that if an armed robber put on a nice suit with good tie, nice shoes, clean shirt and takes care of his steps as he walks, minds his speech, he is in no wise different from a pastor, oh how lovely our decent sisters dress to church. The second is our comportment in church, as we try not to get angry when brethren offend us in church, the third deceptive act is our lovely worship sessions, praise session is always amazing as our choristers display their talents, and most times is as if heaven will fall as we end our praise sessions with woos and whaos.
We have no problem if pastors determine acceptance of our worship or not, it is amazing that most times our pastors are lost themselves, carried away by harmonious songs and impressive dance steps of their church members, but there is a serious problem since the determinant of acceptable worship is God, read what He says in verse 13 of our passage ;’….. and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me,…’ how close is your heart? does your heart truly desire God and His ways? all preparations (personal or collectively) to make our services interesting will be complete waste of time if our hearts are far God.
In verse 14 God expresses His displeasure at deceptive worship ‘… for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid. When you don’t have access to wise counsels and instructions you are heading to destruction. How do you treat someone who pretends to be listening to you only to find out that he is deceiving you? I Charge you to take your heart to church this day and be ready to obey God’s word. GOD BLESS YOU.
PRAYER
