Topic: THE SPIRIT OF ANGER
Text: James 1:18-23 KJV
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
Anger is a very potent weapon of destruction in the hand of the devil, the spirit of anger can make a man to do and say what he never meant or would have never done when in his right senses. Someone once said that anger is a temporary madness which means the carrier at that moment is not different from a mad man and therefore can do the unimaginable.
The scripture condemns anger, verse 20 of our text says “For the wrath of man worketh not the
righteousness of God” meaning anger is enmity to God.
Ecclesiastes 7:9 says “Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools”.
Proverb 22:24 says “Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go”.
Moses is a critical case study of what anger can do according to Numbers 20. Moses and Aaron were doing fine carrying God’s purpose for their lives, they had brought the israelites out of Egypt what was left for them to complete God’s assignment for their lives was to take the Israelites to the promise land but for anger in Number chapter 20, Moses and Aaron never completed that assignment.
The children of Israel provoked Moses and Aaron to anger and made them to disobey God, God was angry and in that same chapter God ended the life of Aaron as his son took over from him, also immediately Moses started his preparation of handing over his ministry to Joshua. Dearly beloved I tell you Numbers chapter 20 is a chapter Moses and Aaron would never have prayed happened in their life because anger ended their long years of service and ministry. This is food for thought, think about it. God bless you.

1. Father, help me to overcome the spirit of anger
2. Give me grace to subject my heart, mind and my soul to the leading of the Holyspirit
